10 Reasons Winter (in Colorado) Isn’t So Bad

Snuggling, hot cider, skiing, snowboarding and scenery: Winter in Colorado is sounding better with every word thanks to Krystal Baugher. Spring can wait!

Sure it’s cold, but other than that, winter in Colorado is a straight-up magical wonderland full of romance, beauty and adventure. If you’re going to live anywhere with snow, it might as well be a place with things (and gorgeous people) to do.

Here are the Top 10 Reasons why Winter in Colorado Isn’t so Bad:

1) Mountain Scenery

There’s very little that pleases the eyes more than Colorado covered in snow, particularly at sunrise or sunset, it’s more than breath-taking. It’s the true meaning of the word “awesome.”

2) Mountain Activity

The people here sure like to do more than just look at the mountains. They also enjoy going to the top of them then sliding down them on devices strapped to their feet that would make a sane person gasp in horror. The skiing, snowboarding and even snow-shoeing makes the Rockies a prime destination for people looking for outdoorsy action during the winter.

3) Sunshine

Even in the winter it’s so fucking sunny here. Most days, no matter the time of year, look absolutely gorgeous outside. Being so high up in altitude makes us closer to the warmth and magic that is that big gaseous ball keeping our planet alive.

4) Fireplaces

Real, Amish or otherwise, contained flames are not only warm, but ridiculously romantic.

5) Hot Drinks

From mulled wine and hot toddies to Irish coffee, there are interesting warm drinking concoctions out there for everyone’s taste buds. (Looking for specific venues? Try the warm spiced wine at the Thin Man or the hot sake Izakaya Den.)

6) Non-Mountain Outdoor Activity (snow ball fights etc.)

If there’s so much snow that getting to the mountain seems like too much of a challenge, there are plenty of other outdoor activities that can be just as fun such as going sledding, having snowball fights, making snow angels or snow people or just walking through a park and taking in the winter beauty.

7) Sexy Sweaters

Damn, I say, damn an attractive person in a sweater; no one does it better in the world of good-looking winter attire. Someone in the right sweater can truly make my day. They just look like someone you’d want to curl up with on a couch, get cozy and make-out with. Sweaters are way hotter than tank tops, or even, dare I say, no shirt at all (and yes I’m aware of the double entendre). Colorado peeps can rock a mean sweater.

8) Exploring Indoors (board games, puzzles, books)

Maybe it’s just too cold outside to risk an attempt at leaving the warmth of the home. If that’s the case there’s plenty for people to do inside. Colorado is one of the smartest states in the country, so curling up with a good book is not out of the question. Playing board games or putting together a jig-saw puzzle can help keep the cabin fever at bay.

9) Under the Cover Lovers

Winter can be cold, dark and last way too long, but one way to stay warm and keep the winter blues away is by having lots of sex. That’s right, I said it and I don’t regret it. One of the best things about winter is the excuse to crawl into bed early and spend time exploring each other’s bodies as opposed to whatever people waste time exploring during the other seasons.

10) Snuggling

And of course after the sex there’s always the snuggling (well, not always if you happen to be in my apartment); lounging around, being in the company of another. What better way to spend the winter?
