Using Pratyahara to Transform Your Dating Life

When dreaming up ways to transform your dating, the yogic principle of Pratyahara might not make the top of the list… but we think it should.

When it comes to dating, there are some of us who would enthusiastically accept all the help we can get—“us” being the same group, mind you, who believe they’ve truly exhausted each and every resource or idea available to us.

Oftentimes we’re so wrapped up in our own worlds, we miss amazing insights in unlikely places.

Take our yoga practice, for instance.

In another installment of her “Yoga of Dating” series, Dr. Kristen Hick opens our eyes to the principle of Pratyahara—or, the “withdrawal of senses” for those of us not fluent in Sanskrit—as a way to transform our dating.

You might be wondering how withdrawl might work to our benefit in dating (and we wouldn’t blame you), so we’ll let Dr. Hick work her magic:

Perhaps, withdrawing from dating for a moment and reconnecting with yourself is what you need most.

Taking an honest look at what external influences hinder your journey will help you clarify and gain mastery over your relationship sensory input.

The journey doesn’t end there, though. Dr. Hick encourages us to explore the other, no-less-essential aspect of Pratyahara: opening up.
