Third Eye Not Blind If you were a reader of this newsletter last year, you may remember that I wrote about being sort of paralyzed due to it being my mom’s birthday. It’s the third birthday since she passed, and it really feels like something I should be able to navigate without a big production. But dang, did it come crashing down around me again. I cozied up on the couch and watched old episodes of Magnum P.I.—the one with Tom Selleck (my mom’s celebrity crush). For dinner, I made mom’s best casserole recipe. We also made cupcakes in her memory, sang happy birthday, and made wishes on blown out candles. It was another unseasonably warm day in February, followed by a cold front, just like last year. It’s weird how things go in cycles. But this year, it’s not as raw. Things are different. I’ve been trying to be introspective about my feelings and considering the things that bother me with a little more insight. I’ve gotten a lot better at being my own mom and giving myself pep talks. So, while I give a nod to mom again, I think I can still write about the third eye chakra as I had planned. If you have spent any amount of time meditating or learning about chakras, I have to say that this one comes with the most warnings. Since opening or unblocking this chakra is all about changing your perspective in a profoundly deep way, the warnings say, “Don’t do it if you like the way things are. You’re going to be profoundly changed!” You’ll be able to see things the way they truly are. You’ll see right through the intentions of disingenuous people. It’s going to be jarring! And don’t forget that you can’t undo it! However, you’ll be deeply inspired, in tune with the earth, and aligned with your true purpose as a spiritual being. That’s one hell of a set of trade-offs, huh? It’s like, “Don’t touch the stove! It’s hot! But the burn is necessary to live like you should and truly want to. Choose wisely…if you dare!” I’m not an expert in any way, but I don’t think my own experiences with the third eye chakra are as drastically consequential as some of the warnings may suggest. I imagine everyone has their own unique set of experiences though, even when it comes to chakras, so perhaps the warnings are very important for you. At the center of the reason for opening the third eye is to see better from a soul perspective—from an energy perspective. It helped me develop my intuition, understand more clearly how and why my relationships follow the same paths, how to listen to my own self when I know what I want, and how to honor my personal sense of spirituality. Honestly, what might need to change for one person could be something small, like honoring what you already know. That’s basically like giving yourself permission to be yourself. Another person might need to accomplish a herculean task to realize their authentic purpose and has no idea how to go about it. That’s a much larger undertaking, true, but probably still a nudge from the Universe meant to get you moving toward a better life in the long run. For today’s meditation, the color associated with the third eye chakra is indigo, which you can wear or simply imagine. Focus on the center of your forehead at the brow line. If you’d like to listen to some sort of music, choose a recording featuring sounds at 852hz frequency. I recommend sitting on the floor or the ground for this meditation, cross-legged if you can. This is to establish a physical connection with the earth. Breathe deeply into your belly and chest, hold it for three seconds, and release. Repeat breathing like this at least five times. Continue to focus on your third eye chakra while you consider the following affirmations. I honor the inner knowing I innately carry within myself. I am connected to my higher self. I can see the energy around me and between me and others. I embrace the illumination of concentration and connection. I am insightful and intuitive. There is no other path for me than the one my soul has chosen. My highest good is accessible and unfolding right now. My mind is open to new visions. I embrace my creativity and imagination. I am an extension of the Universe. Please sit with these concepts while you continue to breathe. Allow your inner vision to explore what you can see with your third eye. When you are ready to end your meditation, consider writing down any important images or ideas you feel called to save and remember. I wish for you to have a wonderfully intuitive and inspiring weekend. Stay safe, and as always, namaste. Amy |
